When I started going through postpartum depression I knew I needed to make changes to my every day life to make sure that I was being truly happy and taking care of myself. I made a list of things that were simple that made me feel good but didn’t take too much time. Time is something that I feel like I don’t have a ton of and so I needed things to make a huge impact if they were going to take time or to be simple things that would uplift my mood while I could be doing other things. These are some things that I have found made a huge impact in my mood.
1 – EXERCISE EVERY DAY
Exercising is something that has quickly become something really important to me. It is something that completely changes my entire day and the way I feel. If I wake up early and exercise I am so much happier and more patient with myself and my kids. If I don’t workout in the morning I force myself to exercise in the afternoon or at night. I made a promise to myself to exercise every day I and strive every day to not break that promise.
2 – LISTEN TO MUSIC
Music is something that for me can completely change my mood. I love to turn on a playlist first thing in the morning that is a calm playlist, then if I need pumped up later on in the day I can turn something different on. I have also found that it changes the mood of my kids too. Turning on a playlist is something that doesn’t take extra time out of my day, but also makes a huge impact in my day.
3 – EAT HEALTHY
I have found that if I fuel my body with healthy foods that I feel so much better. I try really hard to meal prep once a week and to stay on track with my macros. If I work hard to fuel my body with good things I am so much happier because it is proving to myself as silly as that sounds that I am important too.
4 – HAVE DOWN TIME
I have to have time to be mindless. I need 20-30 minutes to watch a show, scroll Instagram, or something else. I generally do this while Lettie is napping and when King has earned the iPad. It lets me recharge, clear my mind, and to be able to give myself patience back.
5 – MARK OFF MY TO-DO LISTS
This might sound silly but it makes me feel like I am accomplishing so much. I write things on my list that I would do whether it was on my list or not like eat lunch, have a snack, etc. Crossing things off my list gives me the feeling of being accomplished and that I am staying on track with the things that I need to get done.
These are just a few things that I do every day to help myself feel loved, accomplished, and happier. These things prove to myself that I am important to myself and that I matter too. I would love to know if you have things that you do for yourself that help you to be happier every day.
