A DAY IN THE LIFE.
Thank you to ZonePerfect® Nutrition Bars for sponsoring this post.
Every morning, King wakes up sometime between 7 and 8. He yells for Zach or me from his crib to let us know he is ready to get up and play! Sometimes dad has already gone to work, so I sneak into King’s crib with him and lie by him and snag some extra snuggles before starting our day..
We head downstairs for breakfast and eat and do a little activity. We love to have cereal and to fill the shapes in with our breakfast. We always end up with a bigger mess than I expect, but it is so fun to watch him feel different textures, crunch up the cereal, and fill in the different shapes. The messes are one of my favorite parts of being a mom, though, and the giggles and grins that come along with them make my heart burst.
After breakfast, we get dressed and play for a little while until nap time around 10. This is the first time during the day I put my phone and any distractions away. I try to give King undivided attention twice a day for 15 minutes or longer. I think it is so important to play with him and not let anything else distract me. King then takes about a 2-hour nap. Playing is always so fun, but it makes me slightly worn out with King being constantly on the move. So I snag myself a little snack of one of my favorite ZonePerfect® Nutrition Bars while I am getting things picked up and working in my office to fit in all the things that I am hoping to accomplish before making lunch. It is always so fun to me to see all the things I can accomplish if I set my mind to it, especially in a small amount of time. I love to have ZonePerfect Bars handy because they are so quick to munch on, and so yummy! They are the perfect nutritious snack.
Around 12, I head downstairs to start lunch so when King wakes up I will already have most of his lunch made; the little stinker is quite impatient. Ha. We usually have toasted pesto sandwiches, which are a favorite of ours, and King devours them. He loves to help me make the little bit of what I have left of his lunch. I love to involve him in the kitchen, and his favorite thing is to stir whatever we are making. After we eat, I generally figure out what we are having for dinner and prep anything if it is needed while King plays for a minute.
After dinner is figured out and prepped, we head outside to play on the playground, go on a wagon ride, or just a little run around the neighborhood, and I leave my phone and everything inside. This is the second time during the day I try my best to give King one-on-one attention with no distractions. It is just the two of us playing and no one and nothing can get in the way. This is when my favorite memories of this silly boy are generally made. King then goes down for his second nap around 2 or 3. He will sleep again for about 2 to 2.5 hours. I grab me another ZonePerfect Bar and get back to working away! I usually do laundry, clean the house, write posts, answer emails, figure out shoot outfits, work on my to-do list, etc.
Daddy usually gets home from work around 5:30 or 6. We eat dinner as a family and then head outside to play some more unless dad has to leave for meetings, in which case just King and I play outside again. I love the days that we get to spend as a family, playing outside or going on walks or adventures.
We usually just play on the playground by our house, but sometimes we get extra crazy and head to the park, take a blanket, and play until the sun starts to go down.
Depending on whether we went to the park or not, King starts to get ready for bed between 7:30 and 8:15. We give him a bath, which is the favorite part of the day for all of us. There are splashes, giggles, bubbles, and happiness in every bath. King gets so excited to bathe that sometimes we start the water and he climbs in before we can get him undressed!
Lotion, PJs, and books come next, along with a big sippy cup of milk. We snuggle (or at least try to while King runs around), read, and try to get King to wind down. We laugh and giggle so much with all of the funny things he does—he is quite a character! When he is ready to climb into his crib, he grabs his monster and binky through the crib slats, and then we turn his fan on and lay him down with a big kiss goodnight.
Our days might not be something super amazing, adventurous, or anything special to you, but to me they are the best thing in the world.
