Bohemian Chic Decor Office Update
When we built our house Zach was very adamant about me having my own office where I work from home. He pushed it harder than I think he has ever pushed anything ha. Generally he is Mr. Easy Going and is happy no matter what, but this one he wasn’t going to let go. We took the 3rd bedroom that is upstairs (our basement is unfinished) and turned it into my office. We moved the doorway and swapped it to glass french doors and took the closet out of it. While I am obsessed with having it be my office now that we are having baby #2 earlier than we thought we would where it took us so long to get pregnant with King sometimes I feel guilty for taking this room for myself. King will move to the basement when the baby comes (which is because Zach is adamant again that I keep my office) but when we have friends or family stay over we still don’t have anywhere to put them. I have finally figured out a solution and we re-decorated my office to make it more roomy for guests and I am so excited to share this bohemian chic decor with you!
futon || futon sheets || futon quilt || desk || chair || bookshelves || rug – similar
We needed to do my office on a budget, we didn’t have a ton to spend on furniture and I wanted the bohemian chic decor pieces that I put in here to be really functional and classic (I know the chair isn’t but it was my one super fun piece because every room needs something like that). We started by finding a futon couch that when we have guests over they can sleep on. We found this futon at DHP Furniture and the reason we went with it is because #1 I love the look of it, it is something classic and wasn’t too heavy in the room. Secondly, THEY MAKE BEDDING FOR IT. Seriously this was the game changing thing for us. No more trying to find sheets to make it look somewhat put together, they freaking make sheets to go on their futons. I knew this was perfect because then when we have people over we can turn the couch into a bed, put the sheets on it, and they have somewhere that is their own room (with glass doors ha ha) to sleep in. It couldn’t be more perfect.
Eventually where these bookshelves are Zach wants to build built-ins and have clothing racks, shelves, etc. and while I am super excited for that, it is a few years away and I needed something to be functional now. I still am missing a few pieces for these shelves, but I am happy with how they have turned out so far. I am going to add a basket on both bottom shelves to put things that I need for posts and stuff like that in so it is organized, but I love the way they look clean, organized, and put together. I wanted this bohemian chic decor and room to be light and airy so it didn’t feel too small for guests when they stay over and I need it to feel uncluttered while I am working.
I wanted a simple desk, nothing fancy. I loved my old desk that we had in our townhouse, it just didn’t fit the style of our new home anymore. We went budget friendly with getting this desk and the bookshelves from Target and I want to say the desks and bookshelves together was under $300. I wanted a pretty space all while on a budget and not splurging. I know furniture will last longer if you splurge on it, however this is an office. King doesn’t play in here ever and then in a few years when I am sick of this stuff I don’t stress so much that I spent my entire life savings on a desk that I don’t love anymore.
I added touches of texture with my velvet chair, the rug (which I don’t recommend for a living room, it is hard to vacuum and stuff gets stuck in it always so we moved it into my office), and the pillows. I still want to add some plants and a calendar on the wall. I wanted this room to be very bohemian and modern and I love the way it came together. The accent pieces of your home should be affordable and the trendy things. That way when the trend changes you know you didn’t spend a ton of money on things that are no longer in style and you can affordably keep up with trends.
This has become the perfect place for me to work, spend time creating content, and being inspired. I also think that all of this stuff would be darling in a bedroom or you could pull these colors and bohemian chic decor into your living room! Making spaces functional is a must for me and I can’t tell you how happy I am with how this room came together.
