Creating Time with Your Kids
Something that I have been making a priority in my home is spending one on one time with my kids. I want them to know that I see them, see their sweet little personalities, and want to spend time with them. My activities with each of them look differently, for King is is playing & talking about Pokemon, for Rosie it is making her giggle and for Lettie it is playing princesses and having tea parties. These moments individual moments that I spend with my kids have quickly become my favorite and something that we all look forward to.
Lettie and I decided to have a mid-day tea party together. We cut up a watermelon and pulled out her favorite mango juice. We filled up our favorite pretty cups & plated the watermelon on our serving board. She helped me set the table and picked which things we used. Stepping back and watching her little personality shine through what she wanted to do & down to the cups that she picked was the best.
In my home I have tried really hard to cultivate a space that is neutral, inviting, and peaceful. I want my kids to feel calm in our home and know it is their safe place. Adding textures into things like the cups adds interest and still keeps things neutral and calm. I also have started to pull out of favorite dishes and things and using them. I want my kids to have the joy that they bring me and feel special each time we use them. I will never forget the time I was told to use the dishes that you put up to save for a special occasion, let them bring joy to your every day life. I have lived with that motto since and there is so much joy in the simple things like putting your food on/in a pretty dish.
How could you not be smitten with those sweet little hands wrapped around that cup? On our one on one time I love to slow down, notice my kids little features, let them help, soak in the sound of their voice, and truly breathe in each moment that I have with them.
I have been pulling out my favorite dishes for snacks & meals each day. It creates a completely different feel to our meals and being together every time that I do it. Yes it might create more dishes as well, but the moments and feeling that are around our meals is something that I will cherish forever and ever. I want you to do that this week, pull out the dishes, let your kids scoop from them, have the moments. If something gets broken that’s okay, think of all the happy memories and joy it brought to your life while you used it.
