I get asked a lot where I find inspiration in writing my posts and running a blog. While I turn a lot to other bloggers for inspiration, I have found that a lot of my inspiration comes from my desk in my office and the things that I fill that space with.
Running a blog has its up days and down days. I often hit “ruts” where I am unsure of what to write about, what to wear, what trends to bring forward, how to make a new fun recipe, etc. When times like that happen, I have to just sit. I have to take a minute and think about all the things that I have written about in the past and how far I have come in this little blog of mine. Sometimes I like to pull out a notebook and just jot.
In building this new website that I have talked about a few timeson here, I have been needing a lot of inspiration to bring to my website designer. I have had to think of everything from photo styling to what font I want on my site. This is such an overwhelming task. If I were to look at the entire website as a whole and try to figure everything out I would shut down quickly and not know what to do with myself. Instead, I sit in my office at my desk, light my favorite Glade® Blue OdysseyTM Large Candle (Seriously guys, I swear this candle holds all of my inspiration in it. It is like magic or something.) and make a list of each page. This helps me to take things one item at a time and let my creativity and inspiration come to life. With the new bigger design, this candle can burn up to 60 hours – and thank goodness because I am going to need 60 hours of inspiration. And don’t worry if I end up using all 60 hours, I can head to Walmart where they are exclusively carried. If I snag 2 more (which trust me I will need for all the projects on my list) I will receive a $5 virtual gift card. Perfection right?
I am going to share with you really quick how I have made my desk a place of inspiration for me. In thinking of the things that bring clarity to my mind and let my inspiration come to life I have realized that I am a person who loves to have things very clean and organized. I don’t like a lot of clutter or unnecessary items.
I started first with a clean desk that just had my computer on it.
The next thing I added was my calendar. This calendar is a must in keeping my posts scheduled. I plan out every post, email companies run dates, and this calendar is where all of that is kept.
After the calendar I added my pencil/pen/scissors holder. This is something that brings some inspiration to my desk. With the geometric shape of it and the bright colored pens I find myself color coding things or using the lines of the pencil holder to add different lines in photo styling.
Next up is one of my favorite things. I have this rhino to keep my business cards from other companies and my own organized. I put them in there if I need to email someone or look into a company to work with. This helps me to keep them all in one place and it keeps my workspace clean.
These are the little things that bring me inspiration and add some color and different senses to my workspace. I added this tea container because of the styling of the colors and the different fonts/layout of the design. I love that it is clean and crisp but also eye catching. That is something I really am striving for in my new website.
Lastly I add my favorite candle from Glade®. Their new Blue OdysseyTM Large Candle brings me the most inspiration lately. The amazing scents of water, air, and earth keep my mind clear and able to think about what I am working on. There is just something about having a candle burning.
I hope that this will bring you a little bit of inspiration to your workplace and I hope you enjoyed finding out where I draw my inspiration from. Where do you need the most inspiration at your home? You can also see what others are saying and where they find their inspiration here.
