Finishing Off Summer.
Playing at the park, getting popcorn and sitting outside to eat it, digging dirt in the back yard are all some of our absolute favorite things to do in the summer. We love the sticky-ness of popsicle drips, dirty feet, and the smell of playing outside all day. I can’t believe that it is almost September and back to school. We have been living up the rest of summer time and thinking/planning all the activities that we want to do as a family.
Our weekends recently have consisted of going to the park and then getting popcorn to eat on the porch as we watch the city light up from our house. We play until the sun starts to go down and the bugs come out, giggle, and have the best time as a family. I swear my favorite memories/things to do with our little family are often times outside with really no plan at all of what we should do. It can be digging together in the dirt, heading to the park, or playing catch on the side of the house. We always make sure to put our sunscreen on (especially on King and Zach’s bald head) before we head out to play.
We recently found La Roche-Posay at Target, CVS or Amazon (you can see where you can snag it close to you here) and are obsessed. I love their kids formula (Anthelios 60 Dermo-Kids) because it was made with moms, pediatricians, and dermatologists in mind. They created it with powerful UVA/UVB filters that have broad spectrums. Zach swears it works amazing on his bald head and I love that it works so well on King. We have completely replaced all of our other sunscreens in our house with it. It is 80-Minute water resistant which is perfect for when we are swimming and it is perfect for children’s sensitive skin. We also snagged their My UV Patch which I put on King and have the app on my phone so it shows us how much sun exposure he is getting and the risk in real time from my phone which is seriously mind blowing to me.
Did you know that according to the Skin Cancer Foundation 23% off life time sun exposure happens by age 18? Crazy right? What is even more crazy to me is that just 5 sunburns before the age of 20 can increase the risk of melanoma by a startling +80%. I had no idea that it was that easy to get without protecting your skin correctly. I love that La Roche Posay came out with the My UV patch that stretchable skin sensor designed to monitor UV radiation in real-time to help educate users on their daily sun exposure to encourage true behavioral change. Knowing how much sun exposure King is getting is key to knowing the best ways to keep his skin safe.
Spending time outside is a must for our little family and especially for King. I think this kid would live outside if we allowed it! He loves to do anything outside and wants to go out as soon as the sun comes up in the morning. I love knowing that I am protecting his sweet sensitive skin and doing the best that I can as his mama.
