Getting Our Favorite Foods Together for Our HomeGating Party!
I think we know by now that we love football at our house and it is because of my sweet special needs brother. He is getting us all pumped for his party and giving everyone assignments, rules, and making decorations with his nurses to put up through the house. Matt put me in charge of snacks & food for the game this year and let’s be honest this girl loves a good snack so I was so excited to be in charge. He is in charge of a cake that he made up in his head that we had to try to explain out of Down Syndrome terms to the sweet cake lady and are crossing our fingers it is what is in his mind.
Snacks are our thing at our house, more so than meals. King and I snack most of the day and don’t eat very big meals. It’s just how we roll over here. We have tried our fair share of snacks and have tested what will be good “finger foods” for Matt’s party because he gets mad if people stand at the counter too long eating or getting their food instead of watching the game.
Here is what we have come up with so far and would love any of your favorite snacks to add to our big spread too!
– popchips® – These are mine and King’s go to snack when we want some chips. I love that they aren’t very messy for King to eat through my house as many times as I tell him to sit at the counter, and I love for myself that they have NO trans fats, cholesterol, or preservatives so they are a healthier option to buying chips. They have tons of flavors, my favorite is the Buffalo Ranch Ridges, Zach’s is the Zesty Jalapeno Cheddar that leaves him drinking an entire glass of water after, and King loves the Sea Salt which I also love for dipping in guacamole!
Also if you have someone who is Gluten Free at your parties these are the perfect thing to bring. I know finding gluten free snacks can be hard so I thought I would share!
– tortilla chips – How can you not have chips and salsa at your football parties? I swear they go hand in hand. We always eat my moms homemade salsa and Zach always tells me that I eat salsa with my cheese instead of cheese with my salsa because I like so much cheese in it!
– popcorn – This was King’s pick this year. I let him pick one snack to take to Matt’s party and of course he picked popcorn. This kid would eat popcorn all day every day if I let him. I try to only have the healthier options of popcorn at our house because I know King will eat it literally from the moment he wakes up until the moment he falls asleep if I were to let him.
Our list has come together pretty well if you ask me. I’m thinking we might add some yummy homemade queso dip to go with our chips and then we are taking all and any suggestions too! I think mini tacos would be perfect, taquitos, or even pot stickers to mix it up!
.
Do you have any staple favorites at your parties for football? Matt likes to mix things up every year and we told him no pizza this year we needed something different so we will see how he handles that the day of the game. It always makes us laugh that he cares so much about food because he is feed through a feeding tube in his stomach and doesn’t ever eat by mouth (by choice he was cleared to eat a long time ago) but he sure cares about what everyone else eats. We can’t wait to party it up and have the best snacks on the block for our party!!
