Hair Care with Extensions
Thank you Dove for sponsoring this post. Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner works to repair hair and stop 90% of damage before it happens!
I receive so many questions on how to care for my extensions, what products I use on them, and the best ways to make them last. I have had extensions for about 5 years now, I work really hard to keep my extensions healthy because I don’t want to have to buy new ones very frequently. I have learned quickly what things work and the things that you shouldn’t be doing.
1 – Don’t wash your hair every day. I know this may sound gross to a lot of people, but I probably wash my hair once a week. Letting the oils make it from your scalp down to the ends of your hair is super important. Your natural hair gets the oil so much quicker than your extensions so you need to give them time to get the oils too. The oils help your hair so it doesn’t dry out and it stays healthy.
2 – Use a repairing shampoo and conditioner. I love to use Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner. It helps to keep the ends of my extensions healthy, moisturized, and their best. I love that it helps to prevent 90% of the damage of my hair before it even happens. I use heat on my hair quite frequently and so making sure that my hair is getting protected and the damage is being prevented ahead of time is a must to keeping my extensions healthy.
3 – Use some kind of oil on your hair. I put oil on my hair multiple times a day if I am home. I put it on when I get out of the shower and when I do my hair every day. If my ends are feeling dry or damaged I also put it on before I go to bed. Making sure that I am putting oil on my hair is game changing to keeping the ends moisturized.
4 – Brush your hair gently. Always start at the ends of your hair to get the tangles out and work your way up to your scalp. This will help to keep the hair in the wefts and to keep the extensions tighter to your head for longer.
5 – Sleep with your hair up. I use a good old fashion scrunchie to pull my hair loosely on the top of my head. Then my extensions don’t tangle while I sleep, get breakage when I am sleeping, and so many other things.
I hope this helps you to know how to have your extensions last a little bit longer. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to email me or message me on Instagram!
