Holidays At Our Home
Holidays at our home. The holidays are something that have changed drastically for my family in the past few years. The holidays were always based around my sweet special needs brother, they were the time that we all gathered at my parents house because that was where it was the easiest for Matt. We planned and based our entire life around Matt and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Matt passed away a few years ago so we have now been trying to figure out what the holidays look like for us, our family, and what traditions that we will have.
We have always done Christmas morning at my parents (when King was young too) because Matt would wake up and Santa was the most magical thing in the entire world. We would do Christmas morning with my family under their tree and then do our own little thing at night because we wanted that time with Matt and King was too young to understand. Since Matt passed away we have started having my family over for Christmas morning and have loved it. I love that my kids are able to wake up, be home, spend the morning at home with their new things, and then we get ready and head out for the day. I love that we are able to spend the time with my sweet mom and dad & brother and sister-in-law (even though she really is a sister to me). While we have loved having this new tradition at our house, I also wanted something special for my own little family.
This year the week before Christmas we are going to do our own little special dinner talking about service, love, and the true meaning of Christmas. I want it a simple yet beautiful thing that my kids will look forward to and remember for years to come. In preparing for this special little night (and being in the need for new) I searched for some new beautiful, simple, organic feeling dishes that would stand the test of my kids. Is that even a thing? I wanted something that made them feel calm at the kitchen table, no bright colors or patterns. I wanted something that added to the feel of my family and the food, didn’t take away. I found these beautiful matte dishes that are KID PROOF. They are a melamine material so they won’t break easily if dropped plus they are dishwasher and microwave safe which is massive with having kids.
Every time we gather around our kitchen table we pull out these plates to eat and it brings such a peaceful and calming feeling to my home having something so simple with the plates and the white chairs. Knowing the things that I can do to simplify situations with my littles and to bring that feeling into our home and our memories is something so important to me.
While it might just seem like plates and chairs, these are the things that my family creates memories with. We pull these out for dinners together as a family, big family gatherings, Christmas morning, etc and we all pull up a chair and sit and make memories together. The little things in your home can make a huge difference, make people feel loved and cozy, and bring people together.
