Our Modern Kitchen Ideas + Getting Your Home Ready for Thanksgiving
You guys have been asking for some modern kitchen ideas for a long time now so here they are! It took me a little bit to get to it with a couple things that had to be done and if you look close you can see a few pieces of blue tape that is on our list to send to the builder that we haven’t yet… ha we need to get on that right? You guys wanted to get several modern kitchen ideas and know all about our sink (I get so many questions on it and we are obsessed with it), our barstools, and our lights (one of the most affordable things in my life). I am so excited to have it all pulled together and ready for you! We still have a few things that need to be put together and such (how long can I say we just moved in ha) but eventually it will be done.
When I thought about modern kitchen ideas and for our new kitchen, I initially thought I wanted an all white kitchen, the more I thought about it, I didn’t. I don’t have anything against white kitchens, I think they are beautiful, I just decided it wasn’t what I wanted in my home. I saw a picture of a grey undertone brown stain cabinet on Instagram and instantly knew that is what I wanted in my kitchen. I wanted wood that if times change and such that I can sand them down, know what kind of wood is under them, and re-stain them in a new color. I have to say I am completely obsessed with them. They are my favorite part of my home.
When it came to what other pieces I wanted in my home I knew I wanted black leather accents, chrome to match the pulls on our cabinets, and to have a mid-century modern look. I know that mid-century modern won’t always be in style and that is okay with me, but putting them as my accent pieces lets me know that when the time comes that I wanted it to be switched out it is simple.
Let’s get to the details of our modern kitchen ideas! The sink, I knew instantly that I wanted a farmhouse sink when dreaming of my new kitchen. I started researching for a sink and Wayfair was where I knew I needed to buy it from. I wanted a straight front on my sink, no divider, and just simple. This sink seriously has RAVE reviews, like insane. I knew it was the sink for our family and we have been obsessed with it. People come into our home and instantly ask where our sink is from. I knew I wanted a pretty sink because how often are you in the kitchen? How often are you doing dishes? You are spending a lot of time around your sink so when picking a sink, pick one that you are going to love to spend your time around.
Next on our list of modern kitchen ideas: our barstools. I was so sad when we moved and I went to buy a 4th barstool of our previous barstools they were discontinued. I saw these at DHP and knew they were the exact look I was looking for while looking similar to my set that I had previously from them that held up amazingly. They with held a little toddler knocking them over, spills, etc. and I knew that it was where I needed to buy my barstools from again. We are obsessed with them. I love the wood backs, the chrome bottoms, and the black leather! They are absolutely perfect for our kitchen!
Our lights are pendant lights and I wanted something fun, but that wouldn’t break the bank. They are seriously so affordable. I almost put them all through our house because of how affordable they are! When it came to lighting I wanted to do something fun because I knew I could switch it out in 5-10 years easily.
We are getting ready for the holidays at our house and while we don’t eat Thanksgiving dinner at our house (we eat at my parents with Matt) I wanted to share some tips and tricks to getting your house ready for Thanksgiving! It is time to START NOW!! Start cleaning things that won’t get dirty, baseboards, extra bathrooms, wiping your cabinets down, etc. If these things don’t matter to you to be clean then don’t worry about them! Really!! Don’t let it stress you out! Do what you can and let yourself enjoy the holidays!
Secondly if you are in charge make sure to divide and conquer on the food. Ask people to be in charge of a dish so you aren’t doing it all on your own. Kelsey Nixon had a live on her FB page (you can find it here) on food you can prep before hand for Thanksgiving and it was so good!! Run over and read it so you know what you can be making now to save you later!
