Our Mid Century Living Room Reveal
I am so excited to finally be sharing my mid century living room with you!! I was so fortunate to be able to work with Hayneedle on our living room and to give it the perfect mid century modern look that I have always dreamed of.
couches || side table || bookshelves || buffet table || rocking chair || ottoman || lamp || aztec pillow || big white pillow || pink blanket || art pieces – big abstract – cactus – small abstract || cream throw blanket || rug || coffee table
I wanted a room that was crisp, clean, had the mid century modern look, but yet was still functional to live in especially with a toddler. We kept our same couches that we had in our TownHome, but saved up and snagged new pieces to decorate with and furniture from Hayneedle to give this room the perfect balance between beautiful and functional. I wanted to do mixed woods to give it texture and keep it not too matchy so I kept that in mind when picking out pieces for our mid century living room. Hayneedle has everything that you need from your home. I love that I can snag my bookshelves there all the way down to accent pieces and outdoor furniture. They truly are the first place that I look when I have a room or space to decorate.
Our fireplace ended up being changed at the last minute because the one I initially wanted done wouldn’t fit on the wall like we thought it would. It was one of those oh crap moments that turned out better than I could have ever dreamed of. The floating mantel is perfection in my eyes and I love how the wood looks with the white walls and the white subway tiles.
My absolute favorite spot to cozy up in our mid century living room is in the wooden rocking chair. I can’t wait for it to be winter to turn on the fireplace, have a big blanket, and be able to rock for hours, or well as long as King will let me. I love that the chair gives the room a little bit more of a playful look.
The wall with the buffet table and the bookshelves is really big in person so I knew I needed something to frame in the TV (which wasn’t hung for these pictures). Putting the buffet table under the TV gave us the perfect storage for things like Zach’s XBOX, our DVD player, etc. with keeping it all hidden. I love the way the bookshelves essentially frame in the buffet table and where the TV now is.
I went a little bit more bohemian with my pillows. I found these big pillows and wanted to stick with the creams and whites and then accent with the green in the lamp, the pink fuzzy blanket, and the bohemian pillow on the opposite couch. I love that it keeps the space open and clean with all the white, but the pinks and green also give it enough color that it isn’t bland but also not too much.
King is as obsessed with the big ottoman as I am. This is where we build blocks, race cars, or have extra seating when family comes over. I love the oversized look to it and how easy it is to move where we need it when we have company over.
The best part is that I walk into my house or wake up every morning and don’t regret one thing that I have done. I am truly in love and smitten with our mid century living room: every single piece of furniture, wall color, flooring, etc. that I picked and for that I am beyond grateful. The touches such as furniture, decor, and everything else is what truly displays my little family’s style, lives, and is what makes our house our home.
