If you follow me over on Instagram then you know that we have been making new routines for our family with moving into a new home, new life events like King starting preschool, and figuring out what works for our little family again now that we are in our own space again and life has resumed back to normal. Our new home has brought to us such good changes living in our new neighborhood, making schedules, and everything in between.
I have been working really hard on finding a daily routine in our new home that works for me, King, and Zach when he gets home from work. When we lived with my in-laws while we were building we knew it was temporary so we didn’t really stick to a routine or even have one. I am a person that thrives off of a routine, having things organized, and all of that. I have a few things that are really important to me in creating a routine that works for my family. It is still trial and error and a few things will most likely be bumped around but I thought I would share with you what my musts were in a routine and what we have found that is working right now for us (who’s to say it doesn’t change next week though).
The first thing that is super important for me to have in my routine to make me a better wife, mom, and person is to schedule me time. I often times push it aside because I have so much work to do, our new home needs cleaning, etc. This leaves me without my bucket filled because I am making sure everyone else’s is. I know that when I take a few minutes or longer depending on the day that I am so much happier and can take care of the people I love so much better because I have taken care of myself.
On my busy days I schedule out 10 minutes of me time right when I put King down for a nap. This is my time to decompress, get my mind where it needs to be, and to just have some quiet. I love to grab one of my favorite yogurts out of the back of the fridge where I have hidden them from King and turn on either some music if I have had a fairly simple/good day, or meditate while I eat my Oui by Yoplait French style yogurt. I buy these at Target and save them just for my me time. It is seriously so yummy. Oui by Yoplait yogurt is a French style yogurt that is thick, creamy, and has a subtle fresh taste. I have to control myself when it comes to them because I literally could eat one every couple of hours. It leaves me feeling refreshed, feeling a little fancy with eating it out of the glass pot, and like I can conquer the world. The lemon and coconut are super refreshing and the strawberry is like a sweet treat. They are delicious! Sometimes it is that 10 minutes of me time with my yogurt that truly gets me through the day so I knew scheduling it into my routine was a must.
The second thing that I knew needed to be in our routine was naptime for King. He used to be a lunchtime nap boy and now that he is starting preschool and goes from 12-2 we needed to move his nap time around preschool. He goes down now anywhere from 1-2:15 depending on if he has preschool that day or not. He is just like his mama and needs his sleep! I am not the happiest camper when I don’t get enough sleep and he is exactly the same way.
Third I know I need a few hours every day to work. I have a nanny come on Fridays to help me with King so I can get the bulk of work done, but emails, social media, and some other things I do daily. If I do some daily and the bulk on the weekends, it keeps me more on top of things and I can spend more time with my family rather than stress out that I have things to do.
Lastly, I knew we needed family time in our routine so I made sure to put dinner as a family on our routine and some time to play whether it be watching a show together, digging in the backyard, or going on a family walk. Knowing that it is something that we have a certain time set aside for it makes me know that it isn’t something that I can schedule over easily. Things on our routine that are my top 4 important things I do my very best to not schedule over or move around to keep consistency.
Here is our daily routine in our new home right now:
6:30 – I wake up and work until King wakes up.
8:45-9:00 – King wakes up
9:30 – Breakfast
10:15 – We both get ready for the day
11:00 – Play outside, do a craft together, etc.
12:15 – Lunch time & prep dinner if needed
12:45 – Clean Up and King does his daily jobs to help around the house
2:00 – King goes down for a nap
2:10 – Me time with my Oui by Yoplait French style yogurt
2:30 – Clean Up toys
2:45 – Work until King is up from his nap
3:45-4:00 – King wakes up from his nap
4:30 – Play until it is time to start dinner
5:15 – Start dinner
6:00 – Dinner as a family
7:00 – Family time
7:45 – Bath Time
8:15 – Prayers and Books
8:30 – King in bed
9:00 – Catch up on work if needed or spend time with Zach
10:00 – I head to bed
That is what is working for us right now and it seems to be doing okay. Things will shake up a little bit here and there and we might have to rearrange things when King starts preschool. Making sure that I have my silly Oui by Yoplait me time is a must in to make sure I am taking some time for myself in the middle of the day, decompressing, relaxing, and having a refreshing few minutes. I would love to hear your daily routine and what your favorite thing is to do for me time!
