Newborn Essentials – What You Really Need
Having a newborn baby is the best, but I feel like it can be overwhelming to know what you need whether it is your first baby or your 3rd. I had Lettie 3 1/2 years after King and I feel like so many things changed and there were so many new products that weren’t available when I had King. Yes I had everything from when we had King, but for some reason I still was really overwhelmed and didn’t even know where to start. Yes it all does work out in the end and you make it work with what you have, but I love the process of preparing for a baby, going through what we had, buying things that needed replaced, etc. Plus this time I was having a little girl and she needed girly things! Here is some products that we think are newborn essentials. I hope this helps you to have a little bit of a better idea on what you need and I would love to hear if there was something that was a must for you that I didn’t have on the list!
|| BABY BATH | SOAPS | TOWEL | WASHCLOTHS ||
These are things that honestly I didn’t even think of until someone brought it up to me or we received a towel and washcloth as a gift.
I swear by having a little baby bath, it makes bathing your newborn a little easier and less stressful. I don’t know about you but I swear newborns are slippery when you bath them. Having a little tub is the best and Lettie could sit in it with the water running on her for hours. We love this whale tub from Skip Hop because it has a little pocket that fits her bum so she doesn’t get as cold. Plus it is super soft and easily shapes to whatever type of sink you put it in.
Soaps are something that we just share between her and King. We are obsessed with Tubby Todd and it is all that we really use for her or King. It smells delicious, is all natural. Their lotion is also all that I will use on my hands too. It is the best!
Towels and washcloths are something that I feel like needs replaced with each little one. They stop absorbing water and aren’t as soft. I didn’t even think to grab washcloths or a towel until someone gave them to us as a gift and I am so grateful for that!
|| LITTLE OUTFITS ||
Yes this seems obvious but I think it is important to snag both long sleeve/pants and cooler outfits for your littles. You never know what the whether is going to be like and honestly Lettie has worn long sleeves, pants, and even little cardigans a few times even though it is June and I’m so grateful that we have them so I don’t have to worry she is too cold.
|| MAMAROO OR SOME TYPE OF SWING ||
We absolutely swear by our MamaRoo. King slept in it for the first 4-5 months of his life because it helped with his reflux so much and Lettie lives in it too. I love that it has white noise on it and also moves so many different ways. I think that having some type of swing so you can put your baby down and get some things does is a must!
|| SOMEWHERE TO SLEEP | SNUGGLE ME || PLUM & SPARROW ||
We have Lettie sleep in a SnuggleMe Organic (this is a lounger and they should never be left alone) and in the day we put it in a Plum & Sparrow basket and she goes all around the house with us. If you are having your first baby I don’t think the basket is a must, if you are having your second it is the best thing ever because I can keep her asleep but keep her next to me no matter what I am doing to keep her safe from her over loving little brother.
|| SWADDLES ||
Lettie is a swaddle baby. She loves it. I think having light weight swaddles is a must. Then if it is a colder day you can put a heavier blanket over top and if it is warm you can leave them in the light weight swaddle. Some of our favorite swaddle brands are Tula Baby, Copper Pearl, Little Lane Market, Saranoni, and LouLou Lollipop!
