Our Thanksgiving Traditions
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, (not because of the food that is a mega bonus) but because I truly find so much happiness and joy in really taking the time to notice what I am thankful for. There are so many different things that I have to be thankful for and to really make an effort and a habit out of paying attention to them I have realized is some of the happiest time of the year for me. We have a few traditions that we do every year for Thanksgiving and I am so excited to share them with you! They are simple things that you can hurry and throw together if you need to, or you can plan out and get things printed if you want to too!
|| COLORING PAGES ||
I love to find coloring pages for the kids to do (let’s be honest I love to too) while they wait for dinner. I print them off and bring a container of crayons. It helps to keep the kids busy and if they are older they can write down the things they are grateful for too. This year our pages are from Colorly Love which is a $5 subscription for darling coloring pages every month.
|| THANKFUL LEAVES ||
If I am feeling like a total rockstar then I will print a big tree off at OfficeDepot as a blueprint size, and if not then we just cut out leaves write what we are thankful for on one every day and we tape them up to the window if we didn’t print a tree. Super simple right!?
|| THANK YOU/THANKFUL CARDS ||
Once or twice a week I do my best to get King (I do it myself too) to write thank you/thankful cards to people that we love and our friends. It takes only a few minutes and goes so far. King loves to color on them, put the stamp on them, and then take them down to the mailbox. Teaching him to write thank you cards is something that is super crazy important to me.
|| MACY’S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE ||
This is something that I remember doing since I was little, it is my absolute favorite. I love watching all the floats, the feeling of the coziness of watching it, etc. Zach makes fun of me every year as I sit and watch it and can’t do anything else.
|| LOOK THROUGH BLACK FRIDAY AD’S ||
This is something that I remember since I was little too, my mom and I would go through the Black Friday ad’s, circle the things that we liked, and then make big lists of where we wanted to go, what we were looking for, etc. We still do this and I love it, it is a little bit different now that most everything can be bought online though.
|| MAKE MASHED POTATOES ||
Zach is the KING of the yummiest mashed potatoes to the point that my mom asks him to make them for their Thanksgiving dinner even if we aren’t at their house that year. They aren’t healthy by any means, but oh they are the yummiest potatoes ever!
These are just a few of our favorite things that we love to do from November 1st through Thanksgiving. I hope these are things that you are able to do with your littles. I would love to know if you have any fun Thanksgiving traditions that you do with your family or with your littles!
