Prioritizing Our Family with Monthly Planning
When we set our goals at the beginning of the year there were two things that were really important for me for our family. I wanted to have a monthly date night with Zach and have a family activity every month as a family. I wanted to make my little family a priority, time together to create memories a priority this year.
These were things that were non-negotiable for me and something that I knew if I wanted it to happen then we needed to put it on the calendar right then and there. So that is what we did! We sat down and put one Saturday a month on the calendar as our family activity and one Tuesday night every month as our date night. I asked my mom if she would watch our kids on all the Tuesday nights and sent her calendar invitations so there was no thought besides going somewhere and doing something together. No finding babysitters, putting the date aside, etc. It was now on the calendar to plan around it instead of planning everything else and then planning it around everything.
Our family activities and Zach and I’s date nights don’t have to be anything big, it can be playing outside all together uninterrupted, going to the gas station and buying cookies and a drink to sit in the car and talk, making cookies all together, etc. The goal is just to spend time together as a family, be together, and to be present.
I hope that this helps you to be able to do the same for your family, to make the time you spend together a priority. I would love to know what your favorite family activities and date nights are so we can do them this year as our little family!
