Okay, so where are all my Skittles lovers at? These always seem to be my go to fruity treat when I am wanting something sweet! I absolutely love them. I love the different flavors of them and all the different varieties. So of course, I wanted to make a yummy recipe from them.
We love basketball at our house, and with all the games coming up I knew I needed something delicious that could feed a crowd. That’s when I decided to go with Skittles Frosting! Then you can decide if you do cupcakes like I did, or a fun rainbow layered cake! Perfection right? So let’s get to it!
First head to your local Sam’s Club and purchase the 54 oz package of Skittles. They are on their own palate in the middle of the store. (Pictured below)
Next, make either your cupcakes of choice or your favorite cake. Pretty easy so far right?! Are you still with me?
You will want to separate the Skittles flavors next so that way you can make the different flavors of frosting. Yumm!
You are going to need about a 1/4 cup of each different flavor of Skittles that you want to make into frosting, 8 cups powder sugar, 1/2 cup butter, and milk as needed.
First melt each color of Skittles in a microwave safe bowl. I put them in for 30 seconds, took them out and stirred them, added a splash of milk, and then placed them back in the microwave for an additional 30 seconds. While those cool we will make the frosting portion.
With your room temperature butter, cream it up with a hand mixer, add in some powder sugar, and a splash of milk. You will want quite a bit of frosting so keep adding powder sugar and milk as needed to make a big batch.
After you make your frosting and your melted Skittles have cooled a little bit, portion the frosting out into 5 separate bowls, pour in the melted Skittles mixture and stir well.
Lastly, frost that goodness on to your cupcakes & enjoy! Matt can not wait for me to bring these to his basketball party that he is having toward the end of March & I can’t wait to devour them again! Its only madness if you don’t have Skittles! Let me know if you try them out at home & how it goes! Oh and if you are looking for more Skittles Recipes, you can head over to Skittles Tourney for amazing goodness! XO
