Terrified of Water to A Little Fishy?
I get so excited for summer time, the warm sunshine on my skin, the fruity flavors of popsicles, and spending the day at my parents pool. I thought this is how our summers would be spent last year, until I took King to swimming lessons in the spring. He was terrified. Wouldn’t touch the water and when he did he was screaming and crying to take him out. I broke my heart. I gave it a few good tries hoping that he would get use to the water and it just wasn’t happening. I didn’t want to traumatize him of the water so after talking to Zach about it for a long time we decided it was the best thing for our family to pull him out of lessons and try again a different year.
Fast forward to this year, this little boy is absolutely obsessed with the water. He asks all day every day we are at my moms house if he can go swimming when it is hot outside, every time my answer is the same…”Yes buddy! We sure can!! As soon as the weather is warm outside we will go swimming”. I am so excited for him to swim this year, be excited to get in the water, and to splash and play all day.
I am an anxious mama, I am terrified of this little boy and the water. I have tried really hard to educate him about that we don’t go by water unless mommy or daddy is around, but he still is an adventurous little boy…It completely terrifies me. I want him to love the water, but also to be very careful by it and know the proper safety things. I snagged him this SwimWays Baby Spring Float and I think we are both obsessed. It is the single best float for littles on the market today. The weather isn’t quite warm enough to get in the water yet, but it was warm enough to take it to the lake for him to play around on it and get use to it before using it in the water. I love that it has the canopy on it with UPF 50 so it helps to protect his sweet little pale skin from the sun and that it will help him to be more comfortable in the water helping him to balance and learn to swim eventually. Plus the canopy is removable too if you aren’t wanting it on or the sun goes down. King loves the mesh area on it to splash and play, plus sometimes he even sneaks a tractor or two into the pool to drive on the mesh part and “dig” the water. This mama loves that it folds flat into 3 compact circles so that way we can store it in the back of the car so we always have it with us when we hit the pool, lake, etc.
The third Saturday of every May is National Learn to Swim Day. SwimWays started this in 2012 and it is truly amazing to me. I love that they are promoting that it is such an important thing for everyone big or small to know how to swim. They want to help people realize the importance of water safety and learning to swim as pools generally open in May.
You can snag a SwimWays Baby Spring Float at your local Target because who doesn’t love Target? I know I sure do!!
