TEACHING YOUR TODDLER GRATITUDE.
Something that you may not know about me is that I love writing thank you cards. There is just something about hand writing them, expressing my gratitude, addressing them, and sending a little piece of my heart to someone. It is something that I was taught all growing up, and something that I think goes a really long way. I feel like writing thank you cards is a lost art. It isn’t something that people do very often anymore and that makes it even more important to me to keep doing them weekly and teaching King the importance of expressing gratitude.
It isn’t easy to teach a little boy to be grateful especially in this day and age, but it is something that is on the very top of my list to make sure that King learns. I want to make sure that he not only is grateful, but that he also learns to express his gratitude to others. We have found a few things that work in our family and I am excited to share them with you.
1 – I always make King write thank you’s after he is given something, really anything. We sit down and I let him scribble and write all over a card. Then when he is finished, I write thank you, love King on it. It is simple, but teaching him to write it is something super important to me.
2 – While he is writing his thank you card, well scribbling on it, I talk to him about how nice it was for someone to give him something, or do something for him. I also talk to him about being grateful and thankful.
3 – I sit down weekly and write thank you cards to a few people. They are different every week, but teaching him by example is something so important to me. I learned to write cards and be grateful from watching my mom so that is something that I want him to watch and learn from me.
We are in love with these personalized cards from Basic Invite. They are something that just has an extra touch of love on them by having them personalized to our family. If you haven’t heard of Basic Invite, you need to look into them. The quality of these cards is absolutely beautiful, they have so many different designs, and everything from wedding invitations to graduation announcements. I love that they have unlimited color options and it lets you see the changes immediately online! So cool right? Then you can know exactly what your cards will look like before you order them. You can even order a custom sample of your invitation and have it delivered to your door so you can make sure it is exactly what you are wanting. My absolute favorite thing though is that you can choose from 40 different envelope colors. I love that it makes your invitations exciting and unique before they are even opened.
How do you teach your little ones gratitude? I would love to hear any and all ideas that you have so I can implement some more things with little King man!
