Tips & Tricks to NOT Washing Your Hair Daily
I don’t know why but I feel like I am super passionate about this as silly as that sounds! Figuring out how to not wash my hair daily has been literal game changing. My hair is so much healthier, I don’t have to put as much heat on it styling it, and it saves me so so much time. In talking to my stylist it really is so much healthier for your hair if you can go a little bit longer before washes. It let’s the natural oils in your hair get to the ends and nourishes it and keeps it less dry and more moisturized.
How do we not wash our hair all the time though? I’ll be honest, it takes training your hair, having some patience, and knowing what products to use when your hair does start to need a little extra help. It is 100% realistic though! I go about 7-12 days without washing my hair (yes, I still shower…that would be gross if I didn’t) however, extensions play a huge part in that and how long I am able to go. Without my hair extensions I can go about 4-5 days without washing. If you are new to wanting to not washing your hair daily or you are wanting to go a little bit longer in between washes here are some tips and tricks to help you!
1 – Train your hair, it will be tricky and maybe even frustrating at first. Go a little bit longer each week between washes. Don’t all the sudden go from washing your hair every day to going 7 days. It takes your hair time to realize that it doesn’t need to produce as many oils. Just go one more day for a couple weeks, then when that is starting to go well, add another day!
2 – Dry Shampoo is your best friend! I have had some people ask how to make dry shampoo work for them. There are a couple things you can do if you feel like dry shampoo isn’t helping. First when you are getting ready spray it in your hair, let it sit without doing anything for a few minutes even if there is a white residue on your hair, then brush it through. This has been game changing for me and I feel like it works so much better for me! Second, try using it at night before you go to bed. Spray it into your hair and then let it work its magic through the night!
3 – When your hair is getting to the point you can’t wear it down then pull it up! My hair is always up the last couple days before a wash. If it doesn’t look okay up, then girl wear a hat! It hides all the parts that you don’t want people to see and let’s you go an extra day without a wash!
4 – To not put heat on your hair as much pull it on the top of your head with a scrunchie in! I flip my head over right before I go to sleep, pull it clear on the top of my head, and then when I lay down I pull my pony tail over my pillow and wake up with my hair still curled!
Here are a few favorite products that will help you get through not washing your hair daily, as frequently that I love.
Living Proof Heat Protectant – Putting this on when I do put heat on my hair helps my hair to not go as frizzy or to dry out.
Amika Dry Shampoo – This stuff is so good! I also love the Living Proof brand. It really helps to give my hair a little extra body when I am needing it and to soak up the oils in my hair.
R&Co. Aircraft – When my curls are looking a little sad I use this. It comes out as a mousse and then turns to a pommade. It helps my curls to kind of piece apart and together at the same time. It is game changing.
Wet Brush – This is perfect for brushing the dry shampoo through my hair!
Scrunchies – These are what I use to pull my hair up at night.
I hope this helps you to be able to go a few more days in between washes and to help to train your hair to give you a little extra time in between!
