Tips & Tricks to Make Your House a Home
Making my house feel like a home is something so important to me and something that I have really been striving to work on. I want there to be a certain feeling when you walk inside my house, I want people to walk in and feel peaceful, happiness, love, and safety. I want my home to have a clean simple look to it all while still being functional and beautiful. These are the things that I am striving to do in my home currently and I am so excited to share with you how I am doing it.
We have lived in our home for almost 2 years now, it is crazy how fast the time has gone by. I feel like it took a little bit of time to get settled and to “live” in our home to know how I wanted things to go and to be. I have started to truly make our house be a home and to have the feelings that I am striving for happen. I am first off grateful to have my best friend Kelsie (@kelsiemillet) be an interior designer so I can run all my thoughts past her because I am the worst visualizer ever but second to have a house that I am able to turn into our home.
How to Make Your House a Home
Here are a few tips on what I am doing to make our house be a home and have the feelings of peacefulness, love, happiness, and safety.
1 – Hanging family photos on our walls
This might seem silly but having pictures of our family is something that brings me so much joy. I want them to be spread out in our house and to be something that gives my family and the people that come into our home the feelings of love. We did the big gallery wall in our living room and it is something that brings me so much joy every time that I walk past it. I love looking at the different pictures on there and remembering those moments and time that we spent together.
2 – Only Adding Things that I Truly Love
This is something that I am still working on because I am not a very patient person. I am trying so hard not to just buy things to buy things and have a room be done but to be patient and to wait until I find the right thing that I am completely obsessed with. Marie Kondo got it right with the whole “spark joy” thing and I am truly putting it into practice with the things that I purchase for my home. I want to look at the pieces in my home and truly love them and know that there is a reason that I purchased it.
3 – Keeping It Simple
I know something about myself that helps me to make sure that I am decorating my home in a certain way. I can not function in a messy house, it is something that pushes me over the edge. Knowing this has helped me to make sure that the way that I decorate and the things that I bring into my house are functional while taking up space and to keep my home very uncluttered in my decor. I buy very simplistic pieces because I know how I need my house to look for me to be my best self. Knowing this and keeping things simple keeps my house cleaner and my mind less cluttered.
I would love to know what ways that you make your house be a home and your favorite way to bring feelings into your house.
