Winter Skincare Survival Tips
Winter skincare, oh how it can be so hard. It feels like my body is so much different in the winter whether it be my face, body, hair, anything. Something about dry winters in Utah really makes it hard with my skin and knowing what it needs. I always have to do trial and error, but there are a few products that are always tried and true that get me not only through the winter but through the entire year. I am so excited to share these products with you that I am really obsessed with, run out of and buy time and time again, and love.
1 – A good antiperspirant/deodorant is a must. I am going to get a little bit honest with you for a second and share a story from when I was in high school. I was using what ever my mom could find on clearance, ha. I was getting big nasty, rashes under my arms. I was struggling with different types and how they reacted to my skin. My sweet frugal mom was frustrated with me that I couldn’t use the sale brands and my dad took me to Costco and we bought a big pack of Dove deodorant. I have never looked back since that day. My under arms haven’t had a rash since, Zach hasn’t ever told me that I stink (which is a total win), and it lasts me all day long and sometimes two days if I forget to put it on, ha. Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant is the best, I shout it from the roof tops. It has changed my life since high school and I have used it ever since. Everyone that I have ever shared it with has been obsessed with it since. Trust me and get it, you won’t ever look back or change again.
Dove dermatologist Dr. Alicia Barba reminds us that underarm skin needs extra care in the winter. When we wear close-fitting clothes, that sensitive skin gets rubbed a lot, which can cause irritation. Using Dove Advanced Care helps because its moisturizers help combat irritation and leave underarms soft and smooth. Check out Dove Advanced Care for yourself here.
2 – Find your favorite go to moisturizer. I have to have a thick cream based moisturizer to use all over my body. My skin dries out during the winter time because of the weather or because of all the baths I take. I have to put it on every morning and every night if I take a bath to make sure that my skin is moisturized.
3 – Skin care products that agree and enhance your skin. Knowing what works and changing just your moisturizer to something that is hydrating is key. You don’t want to switch everything or your skin will have a fit and cause you problems. Just trade out one thing at a time and see how your skin reacts to it. Then if your skin has a hard time you will know what product is causing the issues with your skin and you can try something new.
Make sure that you have a good routine and keep doing it every night and morning. Dr. Barba says cleaning and moisturizing your face at night is particularly important, because keeping skin hydrated at night will reduce collage breakdown. Staying with tried and true products like Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant is a must, then swapping out things here and there depending on what your skin needs you can add do what you need to.
I hope this helps you to find things that work well for you through the winter. Depending on where you live and the climate of the weather and how dry the air is. I would love to hear if you have favorite products that you have for the winter time!
