How King Earns Screentime0
We have been working really hard on a good routine for King. He is a little boy that thrives on a routine so that is what I have made sure to create for him. Thirty Days Handmade shared an after school checklist that she has her kids do when they get home from school and I took that idea and created our own list that would work for us and I will share the things that he has to do below in it’s own section. After he completes the top section of his list he can earn what we call an iPad token that gives him 20 minutes on the iPad. However, he can not redeem his tokens until everything on his list is complete. He also has the choice to save his tokens and three tokens can be turned in for $1. This is an incentive to him to not watch the iPad and to want to earn money that he can save and buy a toy with.
King also has a few things that he has to do in the mornings to be able to watch Daniel Tiger or a show. This has been a saving grace with getting him dressed and ready in the mornings. He HATES to get dressed and especially hates to get his hair done so having an incentive for him to get (that he really wants) when he does those things is amazing!
Kings List of Things to Complete in the Morning:
Kings List of Things to Complete After School
Put Backpack Away
Put Shoes Away
Have a Snack
Make Your Bed
Section 2 (Each section gets him an iPad token)
Done Your Homework
Read A Book
Done A Chore
Had Quiet Time
Played With Your Sister
After he has both sections done he can turn in his tokens and watch “kids playing with their toys” (youtube kids). It has worked so well for our family because if he doesn’t do it, he doesn’t get to watch iPad…if he wants to watch iPad then he has to complete his list simple as that. I printed his list out and laminated it and then he gets to check off each thing every day on his own. He gets so excited to check the things off and I love watching him check things off and being so proud of himself!
