5 Tips & Tricks for Healthy Hair
When it comes to healthy hair, let’s be honest it takes a bit more than the perfect shampoo. Babes, I am here to tell you healthy hair is on the horizon with these simple tips and tricks. I get asked about my hair and my extensions more than anything else. While yes I do have extensions, keeping my natural hair healthy along with my extensions is key. If my natural hair isn’t healthy then it will be damaged from extensions and ultimately thinned and not be able to support them. I have tried so many different products, tips I have been given, etc. and found the perfect combo that works for my hair and my extensions. Everyone’s hair is different, this is what works for me and I hope some of these products and tips can help you with your hair health too.
Healthy Hair Tip #1
Don’t wash your hair every day. Not washing your hair every day allows the oils from your scalp to get to the ends of your hair which is really healthy for your hair. You will have to train your hair, if you need tips and tricks on that you can read all about it on my post here.
Healthy Hair Tip #2
Invest in a good dry shampoo and a good dry conditioner. These are key in hair health. While I am a girl who use to buy the $1.97 Suave Dry Shampoo from Target, I found that it was drying out my natural hair while removing/hiding the grease on my head. When I switched to Amika Dry Shampoo and added their Dry Conditioner I noticed the biggest difference in my hair and that I didn’t have to use as much product either. My natural hair & extensions weren’t dried out anymore and I could even go longer between washes.
Healthy Hair Tip #3
Use heat protectant when you are curling your hair and try not to use heat on it. I curl my hair pretty tight at the beginning of the week and then don’t touch it again from then until I wash it again. I have had to learn to be okay with really loose curls, it not being perfect, etc. because the difference of keeping heat off my hair has been key.
Healthy Hair Tip #4
Wear your hair on the top of your head in a scrunchie when you sleep. Not only does this help you to keep your curls longer, but also prevents breakage of laying on your hair and your hair being on your pillow while you sleep.
Healthy Hair Tip #5
Try not to color your hair if you don’t have to. I buy my extensions to match my natural hair with highlights. I colored my hair in the Spring, but the last time I colored my hair before that was 2-3 years and it was putting highlights in it also. I understand that as we age we have gray hair that we need to color, try to only keep the color on your roots and find a stylist that is amazing at coloring your hair so you can go a while before you have to color it again with it still looking good.
